Hatfield tapped to lead Georgia DNR board

   Joe Hatfield has been involved in the outdoors for nearly his entire life and has put his knowledge and experience to good use.    That will come in even more handy now, as he was elected chairman of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources on Tuesday.

Demorest crews battle elements once again

   True to their reputations, Demorest Public Works crews went out into the blistering cold last weekend to fix a broken water line near South State Bank in Cornelia.    Demorest’s crews, led by Public Works Director Bryan Popham, have been through a lot over the last 15 months or so.

County gains firefighters, still hopes for some more

   Habersham County Commissioner Bruce Palmer struck a compromise at budget time last year to get the document passed, gaining three more firefighter positions to gain his final vote.

Raiders name best of the best

   After four years of diligent studying and hard work, Georgia Kerr has been named Habersham Central High School’s Class of 2024 valedictorian with Brad Chosewood being the class’s salutatorian and STAR Student.     Kerr said she has been working towards valedictorian since the 7th grade.

Still time for Clarkesville citizens to contribute to time capsule

Class of 2024 valedictorian and salutatorian announced

   Georgia Kerr has been announced as Habersham Central High School’s valedictorian for 2024, and Brad Chosewood has been named salutatorian and STAR Student. Kerr plans to attend University of Miami, and Chosewood will attend Dartmouth College where he will throw shot put.

Spelling champ beats the nerves, nails the words

   Both excitement and nerves were high on Wednesday as 8th grader Kyran Phasavong of North Habersham Middle School correctly spelled “serenity,” to win the Habersham County Scripps Spelling Bee.

Some cities still wary about county’s animal control fees

   Habersham County still does not have all of its agreements signed for animal control, as some of the cities have held out on the latest payment formula.
