Krockum turns gaze to sheriff campaign

   Demorest Police Chief Robin Krockum will retire from his current position March 1 with loftier goals in mind. Krockum announced early in 2023 that he would run for Habersham County Sheriff, a position being vacated by Joey Terrell after four terms.

   In the wake of Demorest Police Chief Robin Krockum's impending retirement, Demorest City Council approved Assistant Chief Casey Chastain as his successor beginning March 1 at Tuesday's meeting.

One final Endeavour

   NASA’s retired Space Shuttle Endeavour was transported to the partly-built Samuel Oschin Air and Space Center in Los Angeles on Monday to be displayed to the public. Tallulah Falls School students had a part in naming the historic shuttle that flew 25 missions between 1992 and 2011.    Dr.

County fire stations in desperate shape

   A majority of the Habersham County fire stations are in dire need of repairs and renovations according to Jeff Adams, Habersham County Emergency Services Director.    Adams gave a presentation at last week’s county commission retreat on the issue.

Trash still on minds of local leaders

   A major topic of discussion at the Jan. 26 Habersham County Board of Commissioners retreat was the future of the landfill.

More than century of memories

   Frances Bennett’s earliest memory is begging her mother, Texanna Trotter, to let her go to Sunday school when she was nearly 3 years old. Her baby sister had just been born, and her mother didn’t have time to get Bennett ready for church.    “I always wanted to go everywhere everybody went.

New LOST could cut deep into property taxes

   A potential new Local Option Sales Tax (LOST) in Habersham County could slash property taxes down significantly, documents provided by county leaders show.    The LOST, which is proposed in a bill sponsored by Georgia Rep.

Clarkesville boxes up its time capsule gift to 2074

   Clarkesville’s celebration of its bicentennial reached its ending moment Saturday as local officials and leaders ceremoniously made their contributions to a time capsule that will be opened in 2074.    Councilman Brad Coppedge organized the project to bring the celebration to a close.

   Cynthia Lincoln, known by friends as “Linke,” has fond memories of doing math homework at the counter of their parents’ coffee shop in Kennesaw while surrounded by the noise of steaming milk and the strong aroma of brewing coffee.
