Major land transfer opportunity for Habersham

   As development marches north on Hwy. 365, local leadership holds the reins for planned growth along the corridor.    Under House Resolution 97, the state is giving Habersham County the opportunity to purchase a 180-acre property along Ga. 365 from the Georgia Department of Corrections.

Demorest council considers parking for post office

   In Tuesday’s work session, Demorest officials discussed building a parking lot in the rear of the current city hall building for the post office to utilize as part of its move into the city hall building.

County authorities prep for incoming inland port

By Hannah Caudell      The port system of Georgia is practically the lifeblood of statewide commerce, and a new artery will be in place by the spring of 2026 with the new Blue Ridge Connector, dubbed colloquially as the Inland Port.

Three charged in shoplifting incident

By Hannah Caudell      The Clarkesville Police Department is investigating a felony shopping incident that occurred on the afternoon of Saturday, March 29 at the Clarkesville Package Store.    Three female suspects allegedly involved include the following: Amiah Unique Lovett, 17, of Ruskin, Fla.

Senior Center out of funds

   The Habersham County Senior Center has been struggling with funding for years, mainly in the Meals on Wheels category.

A lasting impact

By Hannah Caudell      When asked to choose their own service project, it was clear that the Hazel Grove Elementary Teach One to Lead One fifth graders had one group on their minds: the homeless.

Where we’re heading
