Local Methodist churches merge

   Cornelia United Methodist Church pews are looking fuller nowadays.    Cornelia UMC recently acquired a congregation of around 75 people from the former Clarkesville United Methodist Church, which disaffiliated back in 2023.

Collins to speak at Piedmont’s graduation

   Piedmont University’s graduation ceremonies will feature U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary Doug Collins delivering the keynote address.    Commencement ceremonies will be at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. May 9 at the Johnny Mize Athletic Center and Museum.

Wanted man arrested

   The Northeast Georgia Brotherhood of Veterans and Patriots hosted guest speaker Bob Ingram to present the U.S. Constitution and several of its amendments, including the First, Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, and Eighth Amendments.

   Although formal discussion of adding an ordinance addressing derelict vehicles was postponed a month by county commissioners, residents brought the discussion to Monday night’s commission meeting.

BOE hears public comment on FY26 budget

Sims named new county manager

After serving in the interim role for almost four months, the Habersham Board of County Commissioners decided to name Tim Sims its new county manager, effective immediately, at the conclusion of Monday night's regular meeting.

A home away

   It’s a release.    “When they walk through the front door, they start crying,” Innkeeper Sharon Kelly said.    They are caregivers of disabled children, ill or injured spouses, wounded veterans and aging parents.
