The Habersham Central Track and Field team traveled to Apalachee Monday to compete in the first day of the region meet, and the Raiders came home with two region champions.
Audrey Hotard won the title in the 1,600 meters, while Brad Chosewood took home regional crowns in shot put and discus.
Day One saw the completion of all field events, the 4x200 relay and the 1600. The Habersham girls team ended the day in first place while the boys were in third. Several raiders qualified for next weekend’s sectional meet.
Habersham’s region runners-up on Day One included Amayah Dooley, Long and Triple Jump; Juia Johnson, Pole Vault; Landrey Pike, Discus; and Issac Simmons, High Jump.
Other sectional qualifiers included Da’Riyah Bell, Triple Jump; Reece Scott, High Jump; Landrey Pike, Shot Put; Connor Gebora, 1600; and Creighton Bennett, Triple Jump.
Gebora broke the sophomore record in the 1,600 with a time of 4:31.05. Aident Thaxton was just a step behind as he broke the junior record in the 1,600 with a time of 4:31.34.
The track team traveled to Apalachee again after press time Tuesday to compete in the second day of the region meet.
