A trio of area talent was named to Sandy’s Spiel All-State basketball teams this month. The lists, compiled by Georgia’s top voice on high school hoops, feature the GHSA’s top basketball players from all classifications.
Denika Lightbourne of Tallulah Falls Basketball was named to the Girls Class A D-I First Team. Lightbourne was also labeled as Class A D-I’s Best Scorer. The TFS senior guard – a Nassau, Bahamas native – has committed to Dayton University to continue basketball at the next level. She credits much of her success to the bonds built with her TFS teammates over the years.
“I owe it all to them for helping me become the player I am today,” Lightbourne said.
Anfernee Hanna of TFS secured a spot on the Boys All-State second team. This past season, the Indians’ forward became the fifth player in program history to reach the 1,000-point club at the school.
Junior Kyia Barrett of Habersham Central appeared on the 6A All-State Girls second team. The Lady Raiders’ point guard demonstrated phenomenal talent on the court and has established herself as a key leader in the locker room. HCHS reached the Sweet 16 this year and have generated plenty of excitement over what the Lady Raiders bring to the table next season.
