Habersham Central’s softball team increased their hot start to region play with a 2-1 win over Jackson County on the road Thursday afternoon.
The Lady Raiders (6-5, 3-0 region) got a huge complete game win from Emma Forester, who struck out six and produced 12 ground ball outs to stifle the Lady Panthers.
“She was able to work out of a lot of situations,” Lady Raiders coach Karly Thompson said. “We were really proud of her performance tonight and the performance of our defense behind her.”
Charli Barbour led the team with two hits and an RBI, while Ella Diffenderfer drove in what ended up being the decisive run in the fourth inning. “Starting region off 3-0 is a good feeling,” Thompson said.
The beginning of that surge into region play came with the sweep of Shiloh on Aug. 31. Thompson said she was pleased with her pitching and defense that kept the Lady Raiders in the game and allowed for the lineup to get timely hits.
Habersham faced another region challenge Tuesday night after press time with a doubleheader at Gainesville High. The varsity team does not play again until Tuesday, Sept. 13, in another regional doubleheader at North Forsyth.
