The Lady Raiders got the best of Tallulah Falls in a match up of the two Habersham high school volleyball teams with a 2-1 win Tuesday night.
Habersham Central won a dramatic, back-and-forth first set by a close 25-22 score. Tallulah Falls answered back with a dominant second set, winning 25-13 to even the match up at 1-1. The Lady Raiders recovered in the deciding third set with a 15-8 win.
Both teams split their games, with Tallulah Falls beating White County in straight sets, and Habersham Central losing to White County in straight sets.
TALLULAH FALLS
The Lady Indians again split their games on Wednesday night, both of which were against Region 8-A Private rivals. They beat Athens Christian in straight sets, winning the first by a close 25-23 score and winning the second by a not-so-close 25-8 margin. George Walton academy beat them 2-1, further complicating an already very tight region standings for the upcoming playoffs next week.
Athens Academy stands above the rest of the class with an undefeated 5-0 region record, but with the Lady Indians’ loss to GW, there is now a three-way tie between them and Prince Avenue Christian for the second seed. Both the one and two seeds get a first-round bye. It has yet to be determined who has the tiebreaker over the other two teams.
The Region 8-A Private playoffs begin Tuesday, Oct. 12, and the second round begins Thursday, Oct. 14 and will be played at Tallulah Falls School.
The Lady Indians are 21-10 overall and 3-2 in region play this season.
HABERSHAM CENTRAL
The Lady Raiders standing in their upcoming region tournament – which also begins Tuesday, Oct. 12 – is much more clear. They locked up the No. 3 seed in the Region 8-6A tournament a little over a week ago and will play Central Gwinnett.
In their three Thursday night games against Pinecrest Academy, Lakeview Academy and Stephens County, the Lady Raiders won all three in straight sets.
Habersham Central is 23-12 overall and 4-2 in region play this season.
