Habersham falls at home to Jaxco

Raiders finish season below .500, still make playoffs

The Habersham Central football team fell to Jackson County 34-21 in Mt. Airy Friday night.

"I thought we battled, but made too many mistakes in big moments," said HCHS Head Coach Benji Harrison. "It was a tough night, but I'm proud of our guys and fortunately this wasn't the last time I'll get to talk to this group because we still got some games to play."

With the loss, the Raiders finish the season 4-6 overall & 2-3 in Region 8-5A - good enough for the region's no. 4 seed and a trip to the postseason.

The Raiders will appear in the playoffs for the second straight season - the first time HCHS has done so since 2006-2007.

Habersham will travel to Lee County for the opening round.

Because Jaxco won the game by 12+ points - and Clarke Central routed Winder-Barrow - the final region standings are as follows:

1-Clarke Central, 5-0 (8-2 overall)

2-Jackson County, 4-1 (8-2)

3-Winder-Barrow, 3-2 (5-5)

4-Habersham Central, 4-6 (2-3)
