Raiders, Lady Raiders both a win away from region trophy

-The Habersham girls team easily defeated Winder-Barrow 50-16 in the tournament semifinals Thursday evening. The freshman duo of Sadie Chambers and Tessa Murdock led the charge, finishing with 18 points apiece. The win sends the 2nd-seeded Lady Raiders (12-11) to the region championship game at 7p.m. Friday night, where they will clash with Clarke Central. The two teams split their regular season series, with the Gladiators (11-13) winning 52-43 in January and HCHS winning 39-25 earlier this month.

-The Hab Central boys rolled past Jackson County 60-41 Thursday night. Junior Jake Mihalik dropped 22 points (his second most as a Raider) and senior Jojo McCurry added 19. As expected, Thursday's semifinal results set up a 1 versus 2 title bout Friday night between the Raiders (24-3) and top-seeded Winder-Barrow. (24-2)

Back in December, Habersham beat the Bulldoggs 80-77. When the two met again in January, it was WBHS who emerged victorious with a 67-59 final.

Friday night's championship game tips at approximately 8:30p.m.
