Pilots left circling after last-minute runway closing

   A local flight instructor said she and others had to wait two hours above the Habersham County Airport after the runway remained closed for longer than expected due to a construction delay.

The Northeast Georgian staff wins 5 state journalism awards

   The Northeast Georgian was recognized Saturday at the Georgia Press Association’s annual conference with five state awards for excellence in journalism in 2023.

Blessing box helps those who need it

   Ansleigh’s Cozy Closet, a blessing box filled with free necessities for those in need, is up and running outside of Little Dreamers Academy in Cornelia.    The box is run by 14-year-old Ansleigh Sherlin who worked to complete the project for six months with her mom Michelle Carney.

   Opposition is growing across Georgia to cryptocurrency mining, the process of creating Bitcoins and other forms of virtual currencies at giant server farm sites.

Kids beat the heat ... with reading

   Baldwin held its Mayor’s Reading Club Summer Kickoff event on June 7 to celebrate the installation of a Little Free Library at the Baldwin Farmers’ Market.    The city raised $1,000 from community sponsors to install the Little Free Library, where anyone can donate or take a book at no cost.

    Fenders Alley is on track to become a go-to venue for music entertainment and top-notch bands in North Georgia.    Fenders Alley opened in late 2021 beside Fenders Diner.

   Christian Cooper has found himself canoeing through the swamps of Louisiana and hiking a hundred miles through the dry heat of New Mexico. But most recently, Cooper found himself standing in front of a board of review who named him an Eagle Scout – a goal a decade in the making.

Demorest eyes water rate hike in Baldwin

   The City of Demorest purchases a large portion of its water from the City of Baldwin, which informed one of its biggest customers that the rates are going up.    Baldwin Chief Administrative Officer Emily Woodmaster sent a letter to Demorest May 21 indicating that a new base rate of $2.

Feltus hopes to make big sophomore leap
