Seniors have their final Day of the Raider

Habersham Central High School said goodbye to the Class of 2023 on Friday night as the stands of the John Larry Black Field were packed with friends, parents and supporters from every end of the county to celebrate the graduates.

Construction of Cornelia Marriott picks up steam

   Habersham County’s newest hotel is on the route to completion, even though there have been obstacles along the way. The hotel is looking to a completion date at the end of 2024, with many hoping this is the final timeline.

Lady Raiders golf takes 8th in state meet

   The Habersham Central girls golf team played in the Georgia High School Association’s 6A State Championship earlier this week. The 36-hole event took place Monday through Tuesday at Jekyll Island’s Indian Mounds course, where Habersham came through with an eighth-place finish.

Habersham hoops star Barrett picks Anderson University

   Habersham basketball star Kyia Barrett took to Instagram late Wednesday night to announce her commitment to Anderson (S.C.) University.    Despite having other offers on the table, Barrett says it became clear Anderson felt like the right landing spot.

   The Habersham County United Way held its annual meeting Thursday to honor those people and organizations who supported them in 2022.

Capstone Raiders honored as Class of 2023’s best and brightest

   Just 48 hours before they’re set to graduate, 12 Habersham Central students received their AP Capstone medals.    Held at The Commons on Piedmont University’s campus, the 12 students, joined by their families and some teachers, were celebrated for their academic achievements.

Officers nab half of alleged drug drop couple

   Law enforcement officers combed the south end of the county Wednesday looking for two people suspected of attempting to deliver drugs to inmates at Lee Arrendale State Prison.    Around 4 a.m.

Organization seeks to help comfort veterans, families

   Statistics say 22 veterans succumb to suicide every day in the United States. That horrific number shows the strain and pressure our servicemen and women go through to serve the nation, and it lingers long after their service is over.

Biggest Mountain Laurel ever shines through the rain

   Clarkesville’s 61st Mountain Laurel Festival got a little break from the early-summer heat on an overcast day, but the intermittent rain did not dampen the fun for the patrons.
