The language of love

The love story of Paris Holcomb and Mario Perdomo proves that two people do not need to speak the same language to show their affection for one another. Originally from Maracaibo, Venezuela, Perdomo and his family decided to move to the United States to have better opportunities in life.

Piedmont, Demorest bury hatchet on water suit

Piedmont University and the City of Demorest are ready to begin a new chapter in their partnership. The gateway to that new era of cooperation started Tuesday with the agreement to settle the lawsuit between them over water rates that was filed in November 2020.

Elam resigns as Baldwin mayor

As the City of Baldwin was coming to the end of the work session Tuesday night, Mayor Joe Elam announced his resignation that became effective immediately. Elam served more than 10 years in Baldwin’s government on the council and as mayor.

Heroic officers earn national honors

Two Cornelia Police officers responded to a welfare check Dec. 28 in a local hotel on a 78-year-old woman.

Piedmont University Professor Andrea Price has had a remarkable career in music, alongside a long-term determination to run in all 50 states. Price has been a professor at the university since 2008.

Rescued tree cutter dies from injuries

The victim of Monday afternoon’s tree-cutting incident north of Hollywood has died. Habersham County Coroner Kasey McEntire said 74-year-old Leonard Highsmith of Rabun County died late Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 7, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville.

State fire investigator called to Habersham County blaze

An investigator from the State Fire Marshal’s Office will assist in determining the cause of the fire that destroyed an unoccupied Habersham County home Wednesday afternoon.
