Rare coins found in Piedmont’s secret safe

After the first weeks in office, Piedmont University President Marshall Criser started decorating his office to match his vision. While removing a painting that was left on the wall, held up by screws, bolts and fixtures, the president noticed what soon revealed itself to be an old safe.

Clarkesville blocks new apartments for next six months

Clarkesville City Council voted Monday to place a six-month moratorium on new apartments in the city. City Manager Keith Dickerson, there was “another set of apartments who sent in paperwork,” and that the property is scheduled to be townhomes.

Edwards tapped as Habersham Countian of the year by Chamber

A bevy of community leaders were honored Thursday night at the Habersham County Chamber of Commerce’s annual awards dinner, but none stood out more than Brent Edwards, the Habersham Countian of the Year for 2022.

New fire truck christened

Habersham County hosted a Push in Ceremony on Monday for the newest fire engine at Firehouse 12 on Duncan Bridge Road. The truck is a 2022 Spartan S180 with a 1,500 GPM Pump and a 1,000 gallon water tank. It has a full complement of rescue tools and first response equipment.

Students treated for burns after science accident

On Thursday, two students of Habersham Ninth Grade Academy were hospitalized after being burnt during an activity in science. One of the students was released from the hospital the same day of the incident while the other was released two days later.

Raider basketball teams face Lanier in huge regional battle

   Habersham Central's boys and girls basketball teams hosted Lanier Tuesday night after press time in what were key games in their seasons as the final week of the regular season continues.    The Lady Raiders bounced back with a big win, 53-24, to virtually wrap up a No.

Deputies, family seek missing man

Habersham County Sheriff’s investigators are helping a family look for a missing man who was last known to be in the Habersham County Jail. Joel Stanley Rosenbaum, 65, of Lawrenceville was arrested on a DUI charge after running off the road on Jan.
