Raiders open regional play at Shiloh

   Habersham Central's basketball teams opened their regional season on the road Tuesday night at Shiloh after press time for the midweek edition, and both ran into close games.

County denied SAFER grant for firefighters

While Habersham County is discussing a bevy of other concerns, another issue has just taken its claim on 2023’s agenda as the new year approaches. The application for the SAFER Grant, which would fund Habersham County an additional 21 firefighters for the next three years, was denied.

Habersham Central baseball coach Chris Akridge can hardly believe his eyes. Akridge and his players have their own new field of dreams at Raider Park in Demorest, where full practices will begin Monday, Jan. 9.

Alto moves quickly to save water

After frigid temperatures, municipalities across the county are fighting to conserve water after leaks from pipes bursting over the past weekend. The Town of Alto has been no exception, with Mayor P.J. Huggins signing an emergency administrative order to stop industries from pulling water.

Raiders edged by Monroe Area in showcase

   Habersham Central’s boys basketball team lost a close one to Monroe Area on Saturday, ending their five-game winning streak.    The Raiders (7-2) fell 67-63 in the Sandy’s Spiel Showcase on Monroe’s home floor.    “We didn’t play that well, and that is on me,” Raiders coach Tommy Yancey said.
