Joey Duncan was unanimously approved as the District 5 Board of Education member to serve the remaining term of John Elger, whose resignation was effective Sept. 30.

Habersham County woman killed in house fire

An intense house fire in the south end of Habersham County on Monday led to the death of 64-year old Cynthia Clayton and a total loss of the home.    Clayton’s body was discovered Monday afternoon and confirmed by the Office of Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John F. King.

Tallulah Falls honors its senior runners

The Tallulah Falls boys’ cross country managed a third place finish in its final home meet of the year.     In a ceremony before the meet, Grey Bourlet, Collin Kelly, Chaz Mullis and Eli Sims, the team’s four seniors, were honored. Following the senior night activities, the team took to the trail.

Habersham Central is riding momentum from a big win into Friday night’s game against Buford, a longtime Georgia powerhouse who is in the Raiders’ region for the first time.    “They are a good football team every year,” Raiders coach Benji Harrison said.
Gladys Lakey is currently attending weeks of radiation therapy to treat her stage 1 breast cancer.

Just as Gladys Lakey was having to get accustomed to COVID-19 like the rest of us, she receives a diagnosis that no one ever wants to hear – breast cancer.     Lakey said she was in total denial at first, but she was fortunate to find the masses at stage 1 on both sides in May.
