Graduation Day arrives, pandemic still looms

   Habersham Central High School’s Class of 2020 has been waiting a long time to hear their name called and receive their diploma – their whole lives, plus a few extra months.

Local farmers’ sales rise during health crisis

   As mask mandates and requests for social distancing become the norm for certain retail chain grocery stores, people seem to be gravitating to purchasing from local farmers.

   Wednesday night’s political forum sponsored by The Northeast Georgian and 107.7 The Breeze gave voters one final chance to hear from candidates participating in the Aug. 11 runoff election.

Habersham Central Ring of Honor Class of 2020 recognized

   The class of 2020 Raiders Ring of Honor was inducted prior to the Habersham Central Football Ring of Honor Golf Tournament at The Orchard Golf and Country Club in Clarkesville Tuesday. The Ring of Honor recognizes outstanding players throughout history in Habersham Central football.

   They say behind every powerful man is a strong and equally powerful woman, and that is certainly the case for many political candidates.    For the candidates in Georgia Senate District 50, the campaigns are far from solo efforts.

   Recall applications were issued Monday for Demorest Councilmen Nathan Davis, John Hendrix and Mayor Rick Austin, according to Habersham County Elections Supervisor Laurel Ellison.

Neace out as Baldwin administrator

   UPDATE: Baldwin's City Council voted unanimously Thursday night to approve the separation agreement with City Administrator Jerry Neace.     Baldwin Mayor Joe Elam would not provide any details about the agreement or why it was necessary.

   Over the past year, Habersham County’s industrial park has undergone several upgrades and changes that officials believe will soon make it the home to several job-providing industries for county residents.

   Several Habersham Central High graduates have made their feelings known on social media platforms that they are not pleased with the format for their graduation scheduled for Friday, July 31, at Raider Stadium.
