Bruces wild as Palmer, Harkness earn bids to county commission

   Habersham County will have a lot of fresh faces on the Board of Commissioners, as former Demorest councilman Bruce Harkness upset two-term Commissioner Natalie Crawford on Tuesday night for the seat in District 4.

   The 33rd Big Red Apple Festival and the 58th Mountain Laurel Festival are among many events that have been cancelled by cities in Habersham County and across the country due to concerns of the COVID-19 pandemic.

   Leading up to Tuesday’s runoff, it seemed that the closest race of all could be in Georgia Senate District 50 between Bo Hatchett and Stacy Hall.    That proved true, so much so that the Republican nomination for that seat is still too close to call a few days later.

Lady Raiders volleyball team spikes Stephens County

   Habersham Central’s volleyball team began its season in spectacular fashion, as they swept rival Stephens County on Tuesday.     “I was really proud of the way we played overall,” said HCHS volleyball coach Lindsay Herrin.

   The Habersham Central softball team had a big change in momentum as they managed to mercy rule White County High School Monday once they reached the fifth inning leading 8-0.
