Clarkesville changes millage calculation

   Property taxes may not change in Clarkesville, but the way the rate is calculated will.    The Clarkesville City Council approved a resolution Monday night that amends the maximum millage rate in its charter.

Mt. Airy Councilman Adam Tullis said he will officially be putting up a bid for the mayor’s seat. Current Mayor Ray McAllister announced that he would likely not seek reelection this year. Tullis has been a councilmember in Mt.

Voting starts in Special Primary

By Samantha Sinclair and Dave Williams      Early voting started Tuesday for the Public Service Commission Special Primary, and one candidate was disqualified Wednesday.    Primary Election Day is June 17, with voters selecting candidates for Public Service Commission Districts 2 and 3.

New veterans center plans underway

   At the conclusion of the annual Memorial Day ceremony at Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Park, VFW Post Commander Barry Church asked those gathered what they saw as they looked across the valley beyond the cemetery’s grounds.    “We see a dream,” Church said.
