Commissioners consolidate two election precincts

   There will be fewer voting precincts in Habersham County next election.    The Habersham County Board of Commissioners decided to eliminate two of its six election precincts during its Dec. 16 meeting.

Food and fellowship: Cornelia Soup Kitchen to be open on Christmas Day

By Hannah Caudell         The Cornelia “Lord’s Help” Soup Kitchen will be adding another holiday meal to their schedule following the success of their Thanksgiving offering last month to people in the community.    The soup kitchen will be open on Wednesday, Dec. 25 from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Good for food

   More than 200 children in Habersham County schools lack access to food on the weekends, and a new initiative from a local nonprofit is helping bridge that gap.

Clarkesville eyes Flock cameras

   There could be more cameras watching local streets soon.    The city of Clarkesville discussed the potential for Flock cameras in the city limits at its meeting Monday night.    Flock LPR (License Plate Recognition) cameras are tag-reading devices and video cameras mounted on stationary poles.

Kiwanis helps 500 families for Christmas

   The Habersham Kiwanis Club donated toys to more than 500 children this year as a part of its annual Toys for Kids program.    This Christmas, 503 kids from 221 families will receive gifts including bicycles, soccer balls, dolls and more.

Baldwin accepts resolution for fire feasibility study

Elementary students qualify for vouchers

 By Julianne Akers and Dave Williams      The Governor’s Office of Student Achievement has released a list of low-performing schools in Georgia whose students qualify to receive private-school vouchers. The only Habersham County school on that list is Cornelia Elementary.

Hospital opens new Intermediate Care Unit

   A higher level of care is now available to patients at Northeast Georgia Medical Center Habersham. The hospital’s new intermediate care unit opened on Monday, Dec. 2, accepting a limited number of patients on its slow rollout.
