Secretary of State talks small businesses, voting

   Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger made a stop in Demorest last Friday at the Habersham County Chamber of Commerce’s Good Morning Habersham breakfast at Piedmont University.    Raffensperger spoke on the importance of small business owners and community leaders in Georgia.

Tim Loves Tink, but railroad is not falling head over heels

   What likely was referred to as graffiti when first painted on a downtown Cornelia railroad bridge, the legend “Tim Loves Tink” is on track to become legendary.

Cornelia approves waterline study to comply with lead, copper abatement

   The City of Cornelia will soon be conducting a survey of its customer water lines to determine compliance with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Lead and Copper Rule.    The Georgia Environmental Facilities Authority has agreed to fund a $78,495 loan to the city to conduct the survey.

Cornelia restaurateurs earn statewide honors

   While it might be expected for the state’s best fine dining and gourmet food to be clustered around Georgia’s metro cities, local business owners Jay and Melissa Reeder prove that rural communities also have what it takes.

Stoney’s torn down for future Traditions Bank

   Clarkesville’s iconic Stoney’s restaurant survived nearly six decades on the corner of Highways 17 and 197. It took just 90 minutes to raze it to the ground.

Level Grove set to host ‘Night to Shine’

   Level Grove Baptist Church in Cornelia will host “Night to Shine” for the first time on Feb. 9, 2024.    The event is a nationwide prom for special-needs individuals sponsored by the Tim Tebow Foundation. Last year 622 churches in 46 countries took part in the event.

Judge blocks Orchard’s tower injunction

   The Orchard Property Owners Association (OPOA) was denied an injunction to stop Habersham County from putting a new communications tower in their neighborhood by Judge Bill Oliver on Friday in Superior Court.

Local man makes dream come true on Grand Ole Opry stage

   Clint Coker, a Demorest resident and professional bluegrass musician, recently took to the stage of the Grand Ole Opry – something most country musicians can only dream about.
