Runnin’ against the wind

   Habersham County law enforcement kept a busy week of pursuits going, as they dealt with two more stolen car-related chases Thursday after catching a dangerous suspect on Monday.    “These things come in spurts and cycles,” Habersham County Sheriff Joey Terrell said.

Old and new faces tapped in city elections

   Habersham County seated two new female mayors to highlight Tuesday’s municipal election results.    Stephanie Almagno officially will move from the council to the mayor’s seat in Baldwin, defeating challenger Tom Whitney with 63 percent of the vote. Patricia Armour unseated P.J.

Students give veterans a big thank you

   Veterans, friends and families, students, and faculty and staff at South Habersham Middle School adorned themselves in red, white and blue and gathered on Thursday morning to honor Habersham County’s hometown hero veterans.

Lap pool repairs drag into swim season

   The lap pool at Habersham County’s Ruby Fulbright Aquatic Center has been shut down for 49 days now. According to a statement by the Habersham County Public Information Office Tuesday, that number will continue to climb. As to when the pool will finally be deemed safe for use remains to be seen.

Baldwin paves way for data center

   Baldwin City Council met for a work session on Monday where they held a public hearing on the special use permit ordinance for Precision Digital, a data center, set to be in the industrial park.

Cities tap their new leaders

   More than 200 voters cast their ballots early in the municipal elections that culminated after press time Tuesday when folks went to the polls.    A large share of those early votes came in the Baldwin mayoral election, which has been the most hotly contested and controversial race this year.

Full honors for the GOAT of FFA

   When Kelsie Hanley was in eighth grade at North Habersham Middle School, she began her career with the National FFA Organization. Hanley, who is now 20 years old, is set to receive her American FFA Degree, the highest honor a member can earn.

Police investigate dog park vandalism

   Cornelia Police are investigating damages made to concrete benches at the city dog park that occurred late in the evening of Thursday, Oct. 26, or early that Friday morning.

Deputies subdue armed man safely

   Habersham County Sheriff Joey Terrell and his deputies defused a tense situation Tuesday involving an armed man who allegedly stole guns out of a Batesville home.
