Fire Prevention Week coming in October

   As Fire Prevention Week approaches, the City of Cornelia and Habersham County Fire Departments remind residents “Cooking Safety Starts with YOU. Pay attention to fire prevention.”    “Cooking fires are the leading cause of U.S. home fires and home fire injuries.

‘Tim Loves Tink’ is full of memories, lore in Cornelia

   Anyone who has cruised through downtown Cornelia near the intersection of Wells and Irvin Street has probably seen the railroad underpass that displays in bold, black painted letters, “Tim loves Tink.

United Way set to take county’s temperature with new campaign

   Habersham County United Way is moving onward and upward with its biggest goal yet for this year at $600,000.    Donations and fundraising took a dip during the pandemic and has slowly been working its way up.

Habersham EMC linemen set to offer aid in Guatemala

   Isaac Wall and Jed Clark are two Habersham EMC linemen who are taking their talents global for an amazing cause.    The pair have worked through all conditions to keep the lights on in Northeast Georgia, and now they will take on a new adventure by lighting up villages in Guatemala.

Time for another bite of the Big Red Apple

   Saturday marks the first day of autumn, just in time for the Big Red Apple Festival to pack the streets of downtown Cornelia for its 35th year.    The festival typically draws a crowd of thousands to enjoy activities like hayrides, live music, cornhole and historic tours – just to name a few.

Mt. Airy holds the line on millage rate

   The Town of Mt. Airy held firm to its millage rate of the last 38 years at a special-called meeting on Monday.    Mt. Airy has maintained the 3.91 millage rate for its residents for nearly four decades while continuing to see growth in the general fund and being debt-free.
