   Habersham EMC brought its annual meeting home for the 85th installment of the annual gathering to celebrate the successes of the cooperative.

   Demorest Fire Chief Jonathan Knight resigned suddenly Friday afternoon, City Manager Mark Musselwhite said.    City officials did not disclose reasons for his resignation, citing personnel confidentiality. Knight's resignation letter was one sentence and was written on a piece of notebook paper.

Lap pool still closed at aquatic center

   Ten days after the temporary closure of the lab pool at the Habersham County Ruby Fulbright Aquatic Center near Clarkesville on Sept. 19, the pool remains closed.

Level Grove recognized as state literacy leader

   Level Grove Elementary School is one of 155 schools in Georgia that were recognized as a “Literacy Leader” by the Georgia Department of Education. The school was noted for their 20.4 percent increase in third-grade students reading at grade level.

Schools bolster counseling program

   Habersham County Schools are putting a lot of resources into mental health for students, and the leader of that charge is a former counselor-turned-principal.

‘Confident, nervous ... out of your mind’

   When the school day ends, some students go to sports practice or music lessons. Others go to court.    The Habersham Central High School Mock Trial team allows students to take the stand against other schools in a competition based on real legal cases and scored by actual attorneys and judges.

Rent takes the main stage at Piedmont

   The Swanson Center Mainstage Theater at Piedmont University will host its newest production of the Broadway musical “Rent,” written by Jonathan Larson.

Two new homes, grateful owners

   The Habitat for Humanity organization brought in two new homeowners and partners on Sunday. The dual dedication services marked homes number 75 and 76 in the 38-year history of Habitat for Humanity of Northeast Georgia.

   Baldwin City Councilman Larry Lewallen unexpectedly resigned as Monday’s council meeting came to a close, though reasons are unclear.
