Parker trying to move on from 'nightmare'

   Kayla Parker has seen her life turned upside down in the last 3 ½ years. She and her children witnessed a suicide, and she went to jail on a murder charge.

   The Chattahoochee Mountain Fair is potentially the biggest and best ever, with expanded entertainment, animal attractions and just plain more fun.

Cornelia celebrates waning summer with final downtown gathering

   On Thursday, Cornelia hosted the final installment of the Cornelia Summer Nights festival series.    The festivals have been held on the last Thursday of all the summer months.
The Family Resource Center of Northeast Georgia, located at 191 Jefferson Street, Clarkesville, provides a wide variety of services to help strengthen families. Those include counseling, non-custodial visitation, parenting and life-skills classes, substance abuse and addiction therapy, child abuse recovery and more.

   Strengthening families in Habersham and surrounding counties is the mission of Family Resource Center (FRC) of Northeast Georgia, and the center needs financial partners to continue the programs that help families flourish.    Leigh Johnston is president of FRC’s board of directors.

Holiday week rife with DUIs in Habersham County

   Joshua Ryals, 46, of Demorest crashed his 2007 BMW into an oncoming school bus on Mud Creek Road in Cornelia on Thursday afternoon while allegedly driving under the influence. Fortunately, the school bus had no students on board when it was hit, but it just as easily could have.

   Locals mourned the passing this week of Judge Linton Kimzey “Kim” Crawford Jr., who served the community in a variety of ways during his 77 years.

   Joel Simon is a master at his woodworking craft. From miniature models instead of using 3-D modeling software to the finished product, Simon puts his all into his work. Joel creates ornate and highly detailed furniture, fixtures, and anything else one would want to pay him to do.

   Habersham Central’s football team has not started the season the way it hoped, opening the campaign with two losses. But there is one thing the Raiders can count on no matter their record – the unwavering support of their student section.
