Public meetings

The following public meetings are scheduled from June 16-22. Habersham County Commission 6 p.m. regular meeting Monday, June 19, at the county courthouse in Clarkesville, 295 Llewellyn Street. The meeting will include a public hearing on the 2023-24 fiscal year county budget.

Housing crunch hits elderly Cornelia couple

Finding housing for any couple can be difficult, but for Pam and George Anderson, it’s next to impossible. The two have been living in their home in Cornelia for multiple years, but on Monday, they found out they will be leaving and not coming back.

Nacoochee school reunion honors another year together

The Nacoochee school reunion was held on June 10 at the Sautee Nacoochee Center. The Nacoochee school ran from 1928 through 1974. It was established as a public school by the White County Board of Education, with grades 1 through 11. The last graduating class was 1959.

Raiders hone skills in Athens 7v7

Habersham Central Football participated in UGA’s 7-on-7 team camp this week in Athens. A delegation of Raiders made its way down Highway 441 on Wednesday. That same contingent was back competing for a second session on Thursday. The rules of 7-on-7 are simple.

Georgia Power monitors summer storm threats

According to weather forecasts across the state, many Georgia communities may experience isolated or severe summer storms over the next week including high winds, hail and heavy rain.

Habersham hoops teams putting in summer work

These days, nearly all sports could be considered year-round sports. The official slate of games may indeed be seasonal, but for a program to keep pace with the modern demands and advancements of its sport, it’ll need to maintain a 12-month schedule. Basketball is no different.

A foundation of selflessness

Take The Trip Foundation, a new non-profit this year, has taken the first steps to become established. Take The Trip was founded by husband and wife, Jason and Cissy Carroll, after taking their own trip. In 2015, Cissy was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer and brain metastases.
