County grinds teeth, passes $73M budget

Three firefighters is what it took to end Monday’s budget stalemate. Habersham County’s Board of Commissioners saw its budget process grind to a halt after two hours of talk Monday night, as Chairman Ty Akins called for a five-minute recess that was more like 20 minutes.

Surprise storm breaks 50 poles

A pop-up thunderstorm Sunday afternoon caused an unexpected amount of damage and power outages across Northeast Georgia. Habersham EMC had more than 10,000 customers without power right after the storm, with only around 900 still out across three counties almost 48 hours later on Tuesday.

Raider boys finish weekend strong

For a second consecutive weekend, Habersham Boys Basketball was back at LakePoint Sports Complex to partake in a Georgia Basketball Coaches Association showcase event. The event’s 160 participating teams are dispersed into 10 separate brackets with each containing 16 squads.

Raiders get some hits in on the gridiron

A handful of fully suited and booted area squads descended upon Raider Stadium’s turf for full tackle scrimmages on Monday and Tuesday. The camp was pushed back a few days due to northeast Georgia’s prolonged stretch of inclement weather last week.
