Comp plan meeting sees sparse attendance

It has been said that the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few. After two public meetings to discuss Habersham County’s comprehensive plan, it seems the few will have far more input.

K9 Cleo remembered fondly, ‘loved by a lot of people’

Cornelia Fire Department recently announced the passing of one of its members, K9 Cleo. Cleo originally joined the team six years ago when she was just a puppy, which is when Fire Marshal Josh Hazle received her.

Aspen Dental, not donut shop, coming to Cornelia

The City of Cornelia has seen some recent business developments recently, and with the recent construction next to Chick-Fil-A, another one will be added to the list. Contrary to rumblings on social media, there will not be another donut chain coming to Habersham County.

Kinsey stopping home before next step in pursuit of NFL dreams

Former Habersham Central High School standout and current NFL player Mason Kinsey will hold his “Friday Night Lights” Football Camp on June 23 at Raider Stadium. The event, for campers ages 6-17, will run tentatively from 6-8 p.m.

TFS takes fourth in GADA Director’s Cup

Since the 1999-2000 school year, the Georgia Athletic Directors Association has annually presented the Regions Bank Directors Cup, which recognizes those athletic departments in all GHSA classifications who have excelled and shown superior performance.

Toccoa Main Street director gets DUI in Clarkesville

Toccoa Main Street manager Kristen Deal was recently arrested on three traffic-related charges in Habersham County. According to a Habersham County Sheriff’s Department incident report, Deal, 24, was arrested on Saturday, May 27, near Clarkesville.
The sinkhole, which was originally discovered Wednesday May 31, is on the road to repairs, with work to begin Monday June 12.

Cornelia road closed Monday for sinkhole

Last week, residents of Cornelia noticed a hole in the road between Hodges Street and Appletree Alley. The city did some further investigation to discover the cause of the issue.

Habersham Schools providing summer meals for kids

Even though school is out for summer and the hallways of schools are desolate, that doesn’t mean that those who work in the district stop caring for the students. While students are no longer wandering the halls of the schools they have grown to love, they are still receiving a vital resource.

Habersham County Animal Care receives donation

Habersham County Animal Care and Control is set to receive a $30,000 grant investment from national nonprofit Petco Love in support of their lifesaving work for animals in Habersham County.
