Governor's honors semifinalists

Habersham Central High School would like to congratulate four students who have been identified as semifinalists for the Georgia Governor's Honors Program. These students were selected by GHP to move on to the in-person interview and audition rounds of the competition which will be held on Feb. 26.

Schools work to connect parents to kids’ education

To build a bridge and establish better communication with families, the Habersham County School district has leaned on their parent involvement coordinators to help establish relationships with families, therefore increasing services and a student’s chances of a fulfilling education.

Schools approve ESPLOST vote for primary

The Habersham County School District Board of Education unanimously approved the referendum continuing the penny sales tax to every retail purchase made in Habersham County to the ballot for voting in May. Superintendent Matthew Cooper said this sales tax is nothing new.

Sutton honored by Habersham Chamber

When he retired last summer, Phil Sutton achieved what many people strive for – leave a place better than you found it. Sutton was honored at the Habersham Chamber of Commerce’s annual awards gala on Feb. 10 as the 2021 Habersham Countian of the Year.

Speed traps questioned

Former Baldwin councilman Jeff Parish attended Baldwin’s City Council meeting Monday to speak out against the city’s speed zone cameras, a revenue source which is often tapped by council to fund a range of public safety measures for police and fire services.

Habersham County seeks its most wanted fugitives

Habersham County Sheriff’s Office has identified its most wanted suspects and is looking for help from the community to find them. Alton L. Davidson, 48, of Cornelia is wanted after making bail on other charges stemming from a Dec. 30, 2021, incident.
