Hospital Authority turns 75

Habersham County’s Hospital Authority celebrated its 75th anniversary Thursday, as it was formed by resolution Aug. 5, 1946. The original resolution was born out of the Georgia General Assembly’s “Hospital Authorities Law” of 1941.

Clarkesville considers hotel-motel ordinance, alcohol license fees

Clarkesville City Council voted to approve a hotel-motel ordinance intended to modernize the code of the city to better reflect technological changes in the industry of online lodging and vacation rentals such as AirBNB.

Buzz builds for schools’ return

Superintendent Matthew Cooper is looking forward when it comes to the new year for Habersham County Schools, not backward to the uncertainty of last year.

Theo helps spirits take flight

Brenda Reed takes her dog to work with her every day. Theo, a 3-year-old chihuahua-mini pinscher mix breed, is the center of attention for those who come and go from the Habersham County airport. Reed said that even the pilots will call just to check how Theo’s doing.

Sheriff’s programs back on in schools

Habersham County Sheriff’s deputies will be back this school year to interact with the students in three programs that were put on hold for last year’s COVID-19 affected academic year. One of those is the Choosing Healthy Activities and Methods Promoting Safety (C.H.A.M.P.S.
