Baldwin City Council members voted to proceed with the reading of a millage rate rollback Monday. The 4-1 decision comes after an Aug. 16 meeting when council members had voted unanimously to proceed with the ordinance reading which would keep the millage rate at 7.504.

Couple busted for chase, drugs

A couple moving through Habersham County in two separate vehicles were arrested in the early hours of Monday morning, with one man leading a chase at 130-plus mph and his girlfriend allegedly transporting methamphetamine and heroin with children in the car.

COVID surge floods HMC emergency room

COVID-19’s Delta variant is hitting Habersham County hard, with record numbers of patients pouring into Habersham Medical Center (HMC) and the school system seeing a rise in cases as well.

Municipal candidates filing in

As election filing in Habersham County comes to a close this week, incumbents on the Baldwin and Clarkesville city councils look to maintain support from the voters who put them there. Baldwin Mayor Joe Elam, who qualified Aug. 17, conveyed a message of optimism regarding the future of the city.
