   One day, Bobby York, former owner of York’s Garage, was on a bus tour in New York City on Wall Street when he said he was recognized by someone from Macon. The gentleman praised the work of his Cornelia auto repair shop, which he discovered through word of mouth.

Tallulah Falls Police make heroin, meth bust

   Two travelers passing through Tallulah Falls on Friday night were arrested when a search of their car allegedly netted several types of illegal drugs.    A car heading northbound on Georgia Highway 15 was missing a headlight, and Officer Dakota Foster pulled the car over for a traffic stop.

   Jeff Ferguson, Chairman of the Habersham Electric Membership Cooperation Board of Directors, announced his resignation at the close of Friday’s monthly board meeting.     Ferguson cited his growing business and time demands in his resignation.

Sheriff Terrell to run for fourth term

   Sheriff Joey Terrell announced Monday morning that he will run for a fourth term as Habersham County’s top law enforcement officer.    “I thank the Lord every day that I’ve been blessed to serve as the sheriff of Habersham County for going on 12 years,” Terrell said in a short press release.

   Georgia State Patrol officers had to embark on a high-speed chase to bring in an alleged drunk driver on Sunday afternoon.    Habersham County issued a BOLO alert for a 2005 silver Ford Explorer around 4 p.m. Sunday, and Cpl.

North Georgia Technical College student wins GOAL award

   Dietra “DiDi” Gray of Toccoa was the winner of this year’s Georgia Occupational Award of Leadership (GOAL).     The award was presented to the North Georgia Technical College (Currahee Campus) student at the Rotary Club of Habersham County meeting Thursday.

Level Grove first school with EarlyAct club

   Level Grove Elementary School is the first school in the county to become involved with EarlyAct thanks to its partnership with the Rotary Club of Habersham County.  EarlyAct is a school-wide service club for elementary students from ages 5 to 13.

County officials try to figure out what's next for jail

   It has been nearly a year since the Habersham County Commission announced there would be a referendum on a proposal for a $31.7 million bond for a new jail.    After the referendum failed in November, the county was left with no solution to the problem and no idea what is next.
