Level Grove set to host ‘Night to Shine’

   Level Grove Baptist Church in Cornelia will host “Night to Shine” for the first time on Feb. 9, 2024.    The event is a nationwide prom for special-needs individuals sponsored by the Tim Tebow Foundation. Last year 622 churches in 46 countries took part in the event.

Judge blocks Orchard’s tower injunction

   The Orchard Property Owners Association (OPOA) was denied an injunction to stop Habersham County from putting a new communications tower in their neighborhood by Judge Bill Oliver on Friday in Superior Court.

Raiders shoot lights out, down White County

   With Thanksgiving break in the rearview, Habersham decided to prepare another feast Tuesday in Mt. Airy, shooting 57 percent from the field to bash White County, 65-46.    The Raiders (2-2) got off to a hot start early, jumping out to an 18-7 lead by the end of the 1st quarter.

Raider wrestlers stop Franklin with late pin

   The Habersham Central wrestling squad hosted a dual match with Franklin County in a packed Ninth Grade Academy Gym Tuesday night where the Raiders pulled out the hard fought victory on their home mat, 37-33.

Turner picks Emmanuel for college soccer plans

   Habersham Central senior Piper Turner will continue to do what she loves at the next level, as the Lady Raider soccer star committed to play at Emmanuel College next year.    “Emmanuel is what I’ve always thought of as a college for me. It’s not too big,” Turner said.

   Clint Coker, a Demorest resident and professional bluegrass musician, recently took to the stage of the Grand Ole Opry – something most country musicians can only dream about.

Habersham County Christmas Parade rescheduled for Dec. 7

   A major potential conflict for county residents was removed Wednesday when the Habersham County Christmas Parade and Downtown Clarkesville Christmas was postponed to Thursday, Dec. 7.

Trimiar, Barrett set for hoops Hall of Fame Friday

   The Habersham Central Basketball Hall of Fame will welcome two new members as the school is set to honor Sheena Trimiar and Heath Barrett with inductions Friday night.    A student in HCHS’ Class of 2004, Trimiar put her athletic prowess on full display as a Lady Raider.

Family, dogs escape burning Baldwin home

   A Monday afternoon house fire on Mallard Pond Circle in Baldwin destroyed the home of former Baldwin Police Officer Hillary Tolan, her husband, Patrick Tolan and their children.    The fire was reported just after 4:30 p.m.
