Diamond Raiders stay hot, rough up Shiloh

Habersham scored early and often in Saturday afternoon’s 6-0 win over Shiloh.    With the win, the Diamond Raiders improved to 10-1 and 3-0 in region play.    Sophomore Maverick Chitwood got the start against the Generals (4-7, 0-4 Region 8-6A) on the mound and did not disappoint.

As qualifying for local office wrapped up at noon on Friday, former Demorest Police Chief Robin Krockum remains the sole candidate for sheriff.  Commission    All three commission races are contested this year. District 1 incumbent Bruce Palmer will vie against Charles Holbrooks and Kelly Woodall.

Habersham County Chairman Ty Akins added his name to the list of candidates for the upcoming May 21 primary.    Akins will run for his first full term as District 5 commissioner after filling the remaining three years on the term won by Tim Stamey in 2020.

Though she was never a Girl Scout herself, Leigh Lipkin has been leading troops for 28 years, and has been with Troop 11208 in Cornelia for over a decade.    “My mother wouldn’t let me be a girl scout. Things were different back in the day I guess,” she laughed.
