‘Don’t be scared to ask for help’

   When Sandi Hulsey found a lump in her left breast in 2013, she did not know it was the beginning of a long battle.    During the standard mammogram, the 3 ½ by 1 ½ inch lump looked like a shadow. But doctors could not tell exactly what it was. That Thursday, she had a biopsy.

‘Rockstar’ dogs set to put on show for potential families

   Habersham County is one of 39 animal shelters across the country participating in National Playgroup Rockstars Adoption events on Saturday, Oct. 7. The event at Habersham County Animal Control (4231 Toccoa Highway, Clarkesville) runs from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

United Way clay shoot raises nearly $42K

   Habersham County United Way and Springer Mountain Farms held the Fall Charity Sporting Clay Shoot on Saturday, Sept. 30 in Clarkesville and was the most successful shoot to date.

Church has vital roles in healing process from domestic violence

   October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM). Each October, communities across the nation join together to recognize the prevalence of domestic violence and honor those who have been affected by violence with vigils, walks, and other awareness-raising activities.

Clarkesville set to host Founders Gala at Charm House

   Clarkesville wants to celebrate its 200th anniversary in style, and there’s only one logical place to do it.    The city asked for and received permission to hold its Founders Gala on Saturday, Nov. 18, at the Charm House, which was purchased by Barbara and Robert E.

Offer of super trash grinder still on table

   Doug Oliver and Tim Loggins, owners of Habersham C&D, LLC have been urging the county government to consider their Mobark 6600 grinder as a partial solution to the currently jam-packed C&D cell at the county landfill.

Lady Indians win regular season title as win streak hits record 11

   Tallulah Falls set a new school record after back-to-back road wins on Thursday evening, taking down Barrow Arts & Sciences Academy and Prince Avenue Christian.    The wins improved the win streak to 11, which breaks the school record of 10 set both last season and earlier this year.

Raiders survive OT thriller

   Friday night’s pivotal region showdown between Habersham and Jackson County pitted two battered squads against each other with key Region 8-6A implications on the line. What ensued was an emotional roller coaster ride, ending in the Raiders topping the Panthers 34-27 in double overtime.

Teenager directs ‘Clue’ for community theater

   You will never see Annabelle Brackett on the stage or the screen, but she does play a role of her own by bringing scripts to life.    The White County High School senior has been involved in theater since she was a kid, but always behind the scenes. She said it runs in the family.
