County breaks ground on new public safety radio system

   Members of the Habersham County government, local first responders and emergency service workers, and other officials gathered Tuesday morning for a symbolic groundbreaking of the county’s new public safety radio system, at the multipurpose fields behind Ruby Fulbright Aquatic Center.

Raider royalty rules

   Like her brother before her, Amayah Dooley took her place Friday night as Raider royalty.    Dooley was voted Habersham Central’s homecoming queen two years after her brother Malachi was the school’s monarch as king.    Throughout her days in Mt.

Demorest fire chief Jonathan Knight resigns

   Demorest Fire Chief Jonathan Knight resigned suddenly Friday afternoon, City Manager Mark Musselwhite said.    City officials did not disclose reasons for his resignation, citing personnel confidentiality. Knight's resignation letter was one sentence and was written on a piece of notebook paper.

   Ten days after the temporary closure of the lab pool at the Habersham County Ruby Fulbright Aquatic Center near Clarkesville on Sept. 19, the pool remains closed.

   Tuesday was teacher appreciation night for HCHS volleyball. The evening began with varsity and JV players being introduced alongside teachers near and dear to each player.

TFS volleyball rolling to another long win streak

   Tallulah Falls’ volleyball team, playing for the first time in over two weeks, notched wins at home over Elbert County and Barrow Arts & Sciences Academy on senior night.    The straight-set wins carried the win streak to nine for No. 4-ranked Tallulah Falls, still unbeaten in area play.

Raiders hope for homecoming show

   Habersham Central returns to Mt. Airy Friday as the Raiders play host to the Panthers of Jackson County.    The feather in the cap of HCHS’ 2023 homecoming week, the matchup will undoubtedly feature an added dose of excitement.

Political forums materialize

   The Northeast Georgian will host a political forum for Baldwin’s mayoral race at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17, here at the newspaper office.    In the past, we have had candidates debate right outside in the parking lot, with folks bringing their lawn chairs to hear the political discourse.
