Positive rabies case leads to euthanization of 18 cats

Habersham County Animal Care and Control (HCACC) has received confirmation of a positive rabies case off Cannon Bridge Road just outside Demorest.

Wanted man arrested after chase

At 2:25 a.m. Sunday, a Habersham County Sheriff‚’s Office corporal conducted a traffic stop on a gray Chrysler Town & Country van on Highway 365 northbound near Iron Ore Road outside Demorest.

Executive directors and board members don’t always get to see the impact their decisions have on those who they serve, but on Tuesday afternoon, members on the board of the Tim Lee Boys & Girls Club got the chance to do just that.

Commissioners question budget in final days

Habersham County’s Board of Commissioners did not receive budget worksheets this year to check off specific preferences, but some of them have concerns heading into Monday night, when the board expects to ratify the budget in advance of the June 30 deadline.

Owensby joins Planning Commission

The Habersham County Planning Commission has two main purposes, according to its website. The first is to “assess and approve or disapprove subdivision plans” and to “hear variance, map amendment (zoning change), and conditional use requests.

Roundabouts still coming to Clarkesville, Demorest

The plans for roundabouts at the intersections of Georgia Highways 105 and 115, and at Highways 197 and 17 in Clarkesville, are slated to move forward. The project at Cannon Bridge Road (105) and 115 in Demorest will get underway later this year.
