Fourth as glorious as ever

Demorest’s Glorious Fourth celebration on Tuesday had everything from music to food to fireworks and more. Piedmont University President Marshall Criser was the grand marshal of the parade and the Fly Betty Band entertained for more than three hours in Demorest Springs Park.

Cities take a look at panhandling issue

Folks in Habersham County are used to seeing men and women standing on street corners asking for help, food or work. Some of those folks have faced terrible adversity in their lives, while others would rather be out there panhandling than attempting to work a steady job.

Growing SRO program gets statewide attention

Last year, Habersham County pledged to partner with Habersham County Schools to put a resource officer in every school building in the county.

Ministry earns historical grant

Started in 2014, the Pebble Ministry swears to change the world, one small rock at a time. Founded by Troyce Simmons, the ministry has spread its reach across the world, despite it being started in Covington, Va.

Mountain Ed school begins new lease on life

There’s still a lot to learn about the new law that lets state chartered special schools – including Mountain Education Charter High School – continue to serve students as completion special schools.

County answers drowning calls

Recently, Habersham County lost a 12-year-old who was in the water with friends in the designated swimming area of a local lake. Two young children who needed medical assistance in the water on Independence Day were fortunate to survive. Just after 7:30 p.m.

Cornelia commissioner earns new GMA honor

Red, White & Tunes set to keep Fourth fun rolling

Even though Fourth of July has passed us by, the City of Clarkesville is continuing one of their traditions in celebrating the holiday. On July 15, starting at 6 p.m., Clarkesville will be hosting the annual Red, White & Tunes event at Pitts Park.

Fun before the fourth

Baldwin held a holiday picnic and fireworks event Saturday night to get an early start on Independence Day festivities. A popup thunderstorm could not dampen the enthusiasm and patriotism for the folks in attendance.
