Chamber collects goody bags for new teachers

The Habersham County Chamber of Commerce has been gathering supplies for Habersham County School System’s 55 new educators. With a hint of Habersham hospitality, the “new teacher bags” aim to welcome the new teachers into the school system.

Ivester scholarships awarded

The North Georgia Technical College (NGTC) Foundation announces the area recipients of the Dr. Mark A. Ivester Memorial Scholarship for 2023. A $500 scholarship was awarded to one graduating senior from each high school and Mountain Education Center in NGTC’s eight-county service area.

North Georgia Tech’s future biz leaders earn national honors

North Georgia Technical College (NGTC) Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) members recently earned top honors during the 2023 FBLA Collegiate National Leadership Conference held in Atlanta.

Habersham County has a wide variety of crops that are grown locally, including tomatoes of every kind. For many farmers in the area, the season started slower than normal due to frosts lingering into the spring months, leaving an early start more risky to the yield of the crop.

County seeks grant to demolish courthouse

After some tense moments in recent months, Habersham County and the City of Clarkesville are seemingly on the same page about the future development of the old courthouse property.

Inmate charged in attack on corrections officer

A jailer is recovering after being knocked unconscious by an inmate in the Habersham County Detention Center Thursday night. The incident happened about 7 p.m. and resulted in inmate Mark Edward Roberts, 35, of Cornelia being charged with aggravated battery and felony obstruction afterward.

First baby born at NGMC-Habersham

A historic moment was celebrated on July 3, when the first baby was born at Northeast Georgia Medical Center (NGMC) Habersham. Weighing 7 pounds, 14 ounces, Maddie Kate Littrell was delivered at 10:38 a.m. to parents Katy and David Littrell of Tiger.
