   Habersham County's Board of Commissioners passed their county pay study Thursday night, providing countywide raises for their employees, much to the delight of the dozens of them who attended in a packed-house meeting.

Habersham County cannot afford to wait around until there is nowhere else for trash to go. The county landfill is filling up exponentially faster than predicted less than a decade ago, and it is now projected to possibly run out of space by early 2024.

Demorest, Baldwin work to stay water partners

The City of Demorest has been purchasing water from Baldwin since a contract between them went into effect in May 2017. It has been the standard for how Demorest has received water to supply many people’s homes and livelihoods.

Christmas fun begins

Baldwin Fire Department has its Christmas lights up, and that is just the beginning in Habersham County. The holiday events begin in earnest Thursday with tree lightings in Alto (6 p.m.) and Demorest (6:30 p.m.), followed by three yuletide events Friday in Clarkesville, Baldwin and Tallulah Falls.

The Gideons International Habersham County Camps’ Pastor Appreciation Banquet was held Oct. 6 at the Food Factory in Cornelia. It was a night of food and fellowship as members of the community gathered to raise funds for the organization.

Early voting offered in Clarkesville this week

   Early voting for the U.S. Senate runoff will take place in Habersham County from Monday, Nov. 28 through Friday, Dec. 2, from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Ruby Fulbright Aquatic Center in Clarkesville.    It was also announced last week that the Habersham South precinct for the Dec.
