‘Fruit of the spirit’

Billy Boyd is used to being a pretty big deal on a particular day in December, but he never expected this. Habersham County declared Dec. 2, 2021, as “Billy Boyd Day” to celebrate his retirement as executive director of the United Way at a breakfast in his honor Thursday morning.

Plane passengers ok

On Monday, a small single-engine airplane experienced break failure while landing at the Habersham County Airport. This break malfunction caused the plane to move off the runway and on to the side of during landing. There were three people aboard the airplane at the time of landing.

Feeding the need

The goal for the community meal on Thanksgiving Day was to serve 500 people, and the group of volunteers at Cornelia’s Community House reached that goal. They also expanded the area served in the fifth year of the event, as volunteers delivered some meals to White County as well.

County commission runoff results Tuesday night

   Ty Akins unofficially defeated Jason E. Hogan to become the District 5 county commissioner Tuesday night in a runoff.    With just 4.65% of voters participating, Akins had 836 votes to 480 for Hogan.
