New era off and running - Mawdesley sets sail as Raiders’ new coach

Last Friday, the Habersham County Board of Education approved the hire of Aric Mawdesley to lead the Raiders’ basketball program.  “We’re awful lucky to get somebody of his stature that can be as good as I think he can be at this late of date,” Raiders Athletic Director Geep Cunningham said.

Habitat for Humanity breaks ground for family’s new home

Habitat for Humanity broke ground at the site of what will soon become a Habersham County family’s new home. Tinisha Combs and her two children were selected by the organization for a new three-bedroom, two-bathroom house on Arizona Street in Demorest.

Inmate allegedly poisons 10 others

An inmate at the Habersham County Detention Center is facing new charges after allegedly poisoning 10 of her fellow inmates. Around 7 p.m. Monday, six female inmates of the Habersham County Jail showed signs of lethargy and extreme illness.

Mass vax site closes after nearly 60K shots

With the closeout of the mass vaccination site at the Habersham County Fairgrounds on Friday the focus now turns to providing primary care offices and rural health clinics with the equipment needed to administer COVID-19 vaccines to the so-called “wait-and-seers.”

County continues inland port study

A group of local officials took a second field trip to learn about the future economic impact of the Northeast Georgia inland port. The group traveled to Murray County on May 17 to study their port, which has been up and running for around two years now.

Two killed in 365 wreck after high-speed chase

A massive crash on Highway 365 in Hall County on Sunday afternoon took the life of a Demorest man and his passenger after they were hit by a man who allegedly eluded Georgia State Patrol officers in a high-speed chase.
