Learning from the best - Students gain from high school’s certified vocational programs

   Two vocational programs at Habersham Central High School recently earned industry certification, the highest level of distinction awarded to programs within Career, Technical and Agricultural (CTAE) high school programs.

Dog kills eight cats in garage

   For more than five hours, a couple in Cornelia waited on the Habersham County Animal Control to help save their cats after two dogs broke into their garage, killing seven and injuring another.     The incident took place on April 11 at approximately 9:30 a.m.

Woman dies in Tallulah Gorge

   A Blue Ridge woman fell to her death Thursday afternoon at Tallulah Gorge State Park from a possible suicide.    A call came in to 911 dispatch around 12:10 p.m. that a person had fallen or jumped from a ledge in the gorge, later determined to be near Outlook 2 on the hiking trails.

Clarkesville man charged with child molestation

The Habersham County Sheriff’s Office arrested 54-year-old Keith Bernard Jones of Clarkesville on Friday on a single charge of child molestation.  According to the incident report, which was heavily redacted since the incident involves a minor, a complainant walked into the sheriff’s office on Dec.

Cornelia man charged in attempted arson

A 23-year-old Cornelia man was arrested on charges of first degree arson, second degree criminal damage to property and simple assault under the Domestic Violence Act on Saturday.  Michael Stanley Jurado-Vasquez is being held at the Habersham County Jail.

TFS set for state playoffs

After two matches last week, both Tallulah Falls soccer teams are set for the postseason. The Lady Indians picked up two victories to close the week, with the biggest coming in a 3-2 result against George Walton in overtime Friday that secured the No. 2 seed from Region 8-A Private.

Raiders kick Warriors on senior night

The Raiders soccer team sent its seniors out in style last Thursday night, as they notched a 4-1 victory over non-region rival White County on senior night.  “Tonight was just fun, and it was a great atmosphere here tonight,” said Raider head coach Ric Wallace.
