Indians split with Athens Academy

Trent Thomas complemented his shutout pitching with a pair of run-scoring hits last Thursday, giving Tallulah Falls a key 2-0 Region 8-A Private verdict over visiting Athens Academy.  The Indians set a program record with their 13th victory.

Raiders earn playoff berth

On Friday night, the Habersham Central baseball team punched its ticket to the state playoffs for the second time in the last two complete seasons in dominant fashion, mercy-ruling Shiloh 13-3.

Lady Raiders win area, boys earn sectional bid

Both Raider golf teams will advance in the postseason after solid showings at Area 2-6A tournament Monday.  The Lady Raider golf team qualified for the state tournament after winning the Area 2-6A tournament Monday by 14 strokes.

Demorest Elementary raises more than $20K for AHA

Despite the financial burden levied on U.S. households amid the COVID-19 pandemic, students of Demorest Elementary School have managed to raise more than $20,000 for the American Heart Association (AHA), an all-time high since the fundraiser began 17 years ago.

Foster, Ivester top Chamber honorees

Sen. John Foster was named to the Habersham County Chamber of Commerce’s Hall of Fame on Friday at the organization’s annual awards banquet.

Code blue crisis situation - Sheriff’s force getting dangerously thin

Habersham County Sheriff Joey Terrell pleaded with county commissioners on Monday to allocate resources to help the sheriff’s office recruit and retain officers after four of his men left law enforcement altogether last week.

Stamey steps down from county commission

Tim Stamey has never been afraid to speak his mind, but Monday, he spoke from the heart. Stamey announced his resignation Monday as a county commissioner after 16 months on the job, citing health concerns and advice from his doctors. Stamey said he had a minor heart attack on Feb. 22.

Crash on Highway 15/441 sends three to the hospital
