Clouatre commits to Berry College

   For many young athletes, signing a scholarship to play their sport in college is a dream that only a handful achieve. But for Jackson Clouatre, that dream has become a reality, as he recently announced his commitment to continue his athletic and academic career at Berry College in Rome.

Postponements mess with Raider basketball schedule

   After sailing smoothly through the early portion of their schedule, the Lady Raiders basketball season has now ground to a halt, as COVID-19 issues with opponents have caused several games over the coming weeks to be postponed to later dates.

   Two Habersham Central seniors came up with a better solution to student loan debt than any of our politicians have.    Dane Culver and Jose Virgen Ortiz earned all-inclusive four-year college scholarships through the national college match provided by the Questbridge scholarship program.

Deputies turn double play during manhunt

   A 45-year-old Mt. Airy man is in custody at the Habersham County Jail following a car chase in Clarkesville Friday morning that evolved into manhunt and led officers to a second arrest the next day.

Local youth seeks Santa’s support before surgery

   Many children will ask for toys or gadgets this year from Santa Claus, but Jedidiah Bramlett just wanted the jolly old guy in red to send him his prayers.    The 10-year-old Clarkesville youth was born with a cleft palate, and he had several surgeries before when he was too young to remember it.

   Clarkesville celebrated with its downtown Christmas event Saturday night despite a steady rain that finally stopped around the time local children helped Mayor Barrie Aycock light the city’s Christmas tree.

Freshmen making huge impact on Habersham hoops

   For most basketball teams, it’s rare to see freshmen come in and contribute to a school’s varsity team immediately. But that’s exactly what two standout freshmen, Kyia Barrett and Brannon Gaines, have done for Habersham Central’s basketball teams.

Tallulah Falls golfer Hall signs Division-I scholarship at Troy

   Brinson Hall’s love of golf started seven years ago when her dad, Stacy, first introduced her to the game. Over that time, she has participated in many tournaments and practice sessions to sharpen her game, and even helped rewrite Tallulah Falls’ golf record books.
