   Six county school systems from Northeast Georgia came together Saturday at the Habersham County Fairgrounds in Clarkesville to determine which school bus drivers are the very best at what they do.

   Randy Miller announced Wednesday that he will be the third candidate in run for the District 5 seat on the Habersham County Commission.    Miller is a native of Habersham County who has been a small business owner, firefighter and arson investigator during his career.

   Addi Masten, 3, has been enduring a lengthy battle with stage 4 neuroblastoma since 2018. But she appears to be on the tail end which now requires extensive travel across the east coast.

   Habersham County United Way (HCUW) hosted its annual breakfast to announce the status of their 2019 campaign goal to board members, agencies, donors and more.
At Tuesday’s American Legion 100th year celebration, the oldest and youngest veterans present took a moment for a picture with the cake. Van Wunderlich, 94, of Demorest served in World War II, while Corp. Michael Dale, 39, of Cornelia served in Afghanistan.

   American Legion Post 84 in Cornelia established itself just a year into the organization’s existence, and the members marked the 100th anniversary of the post at a banquet Tuesday night.    The charter for Post 84 was signed Feb.

Demorest council approves development project at Depot

   The Demorest City Council approved a conditional use variance Tuesday for the historic property known as the Demorest Depot on Maine Street.     The public hearing came with some questions and concerns by council members ultimately leading to a tie breaking vote by the mayor.

   Demorest City Council members again discussed possibilities to offer more parking for city residents in and around the downtown area. Councilman Nathan Davis revisited the idea of expanding parking in front of the post office which would also eliminate a drainage issue.
Meg and Josh Luke were the lucky ones to find the baby in the King Cake at the Clarkesville Mardi Gras event at the Habersham Event Center on Saturday night. They were named king and queen of the ball.
