County insurance rises after $1.1M in claims

   Habersham County had many budget challenges this year with all costs rising across the board, but one self-inflicted wound came in the form of a $111,000 insurance hike due to 66 automobile claims over the last five years.    Those claims totaled more than $1.

‘Pastor Sam’ makes impact on community

   In his nearly 30 years of living in Habersham County, Pastor Sam Negron’s roots lie deep in his community. On top of being a pastor and overseeing three churches, he also helps local courts and police departments as a Spanish language interpreter – all for “love of my community,” he said.

Raiders put a bow on summer grind

   It’s pretty hard to imagine, but we’re just one week away from those Friday night lights … kinda.    It certainly won’t be dark at 7:30 p.m. next week when the Raiders lineup against Oconee County. Nor will the game count.

Habersham softball hopes to get ‘mojo flowing’ with seasoned roster

   A 6-20 record usually explains itself. That was the final tally for Habersham softball in 2023. By no metric was last season one to remember for the Lady Raiders, but, unlike their record suggests, Coach Karly Thompson’s club was competitive in just about every tilt.

Lady Raiders set sights on playoff return

   The Habersham Central volleyball team was on the verge of carving itself a spot in the 2023 GHSA state tournament. But those aspirations came to a bitter halt in the Lady Raiders’ final region tournament match at Apalachee.

Hurricanes swim team makes waves in Moultrie

   A combined team consisting of swimmers from the Hurricanes swim team plus Tallulah Falls Aquatics racked up the accolades at the Georgia Recreation and Parks (GRPA) state meet in Moultrie last weekend.    The Hurricanes took 42 swimmers to the meet, where the team won a total of 126 awards.
