County commission battles through, passes full millage rollback 3-2

   Habersham County’s Board of Commissioners had to grind through another long public hearing Monday, but they finally passed their 2024-25 budget, 22 days after it was due.    The budget included a full rollback of the millage rate to 11.

Two killed in officer-involved shooting

   Two people were shot and killed Tuesday in Alto by Forsyth County deputies who were trying to serve a warrant.    The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is investigating after Forsyth County deputies entered an Alto home around 11:05 a.m. when a shooting occurred.

Back to School Bash in Baldwin on Saturday

   The new school year is just around the corner, and the City of Baldwin is celebrating with its second annual Back to School Bash this weekend.    The event will be at Life Church in Baldwin on Saturday from 4-8 p.m.

   The Habersham Central football team continues to sweat it out on the gridiron. It’s still summer, but from a school and football season perspective, it’s late summer.

School board holds line on millage rate

   The Habersham County Board of Education held its first two budget hearings on Monday, proposing to maintain last year’s millage rate of 10.354.    While it is not an increase in the millage rate, it will be the first time in over a decade that the school board has not rolled back the rate.

Indians’ rifle team wins national title

   The Tallulah Falls precision rifle team is bringing home a national championship trophy after winning the 2024 National Three-Position Air Rifle Championship last week. The event was held at Camp Perry in Port Clinton, Ohio.    TFS coach Tim Stamey shared what the big win means for his program.
