Soirée on the Soque raises funds for non-profit group

The annual Soque River Watershed Association Soirée was held at the Habersham Mill on the river on Saturday, as attendees participated in raffles and an auction where all proceeds were given to the non-profit organization.

Women chart the way as political leaders

In the United States, March is recognized as Women’s History Month. During that month, Americans celebrate the strides women have made throughout history. In 1887, Susanna Salter was elected as the mayor of Argonia, Kan., becoming the first woman mayor in the country.

Career Day plants ideas for freshmen

Habersham County’s Ninth Grade Academy hosted College and Career Day in conjunction with Partnership Habersham on Wednesday afternoon. The event brought ninth graders to local businesses to further educate those students on potential jobs and career paths within the local community.

Cornelia hopes to have highway welcome signs up and running soon

With over two years of work going into the project, the sign welcoming visitors and residents into Habersham County and the City of Cornelia is soon to be up. Placed right near the main exit to the City of Cornelia from Ga.

Kindergarten registration begins next week

Attention all parents and guardians. Kindergarten registration for the 2023-2024 school year is underway. If your child will be turning 5 years old on or before Sept. 1 of this year, they are eligible to start kindergarten in the fall.

Habersham County 4-Hers win big at district event

Habersham County 4-H attended Junior and Senior Northeast District Project Achievement last week. District Project Achievement (DPA) empowers young people with skills for a lifetime. Students choose a project area of interest, research the topic and write and present a presentation.

On Presidents Day in late February, Habersham County officials encouraged the public to evaluate the condition of their American flags, retiring any ripped, faded, or stained flags.
