Hospital continues heavy financial losses

Habersham Medical Center continues to trail behind its budget plans, as the facility lost more than $700,000 in September to add to its growing deficit. HMC showed a revenue-to-expense loss of $742,962 for the month of September, bringing the total deficit for the year to more than $1.9 million.

Men of honor needed

The final honors of a three-round volley, American flag folding and presentation and the playing of taps are familiar sights at funerals for military veterans and retirees. Jim Morgan was on the honor guard several times when he was on active duty in the U.S. Army.

Fire on the Mountain festival coming to Cornelia

Fire trucks, law enforcement vehicles and emergency medical vehicles will fill the Cornelia Train Depot Saturday, Oct. 29, in an effort to celebrate local heroes. The Fire on the Mountain Emergency Response Parade and Festival will start at 11 a.m.

Habersham County leaders opened discussions Monday about whether to create a Public Facilities Authority (PFA) to help issue bonds and complete multiple projects that have seen an overrun in cost.
