Woman dies in highway crash

A Clarkesville woman was killed Monday afternoon when she tried to cross the highway in her vehicle and collided with another car. A Honda CR-V driven by Elizabeth Peterson, 69, of Clarkesville was traveling west on Tom Born Road in Turnerville around 5 p.m. Monday.

Storytime returns for kids

Tuesday marked one of the first days since the start of the COVID era that parents were able to drop off their children at the Clarkesville Library, where they’d participate in various activities and have stories read to them by Ashawna Green.

Cornelia taps Wilson as new commissioner

The City of Cornelia filled a critical part of its five-member commission Tuesday, announcing local business owner and high school history teacher Jeff Wilson will take the vacant Ward 1 seat formerly occupied by Wes Dodd, who unexpectedly passed away in September.

Dad shoots daughter’s boyfriend to protect her

A man was shot in the Sautee area late Tuesday night when he would not stop attacking his girlfriend, Habersham Sheriff’s Office said. The woman’s father – identified as 55-year-old Cory Merchant – warned Justin Rachal, 26, of Winterville to stop physically assaulting her, but he refused.
